Volume Six
By Craig Campbell
Running Time: 4 hours, 13 minutes
Overview
This compilation is the sixth in a series of Flash Tips and Tricks tutorials that have been featured in our LearnFlash.com newsletter. This collection of Flash tutorials is a must have for any Flash enthusiast.
| Detailed Video Descriptions |
|
1 - Creating a Continuous, Repeating Animation in Flash (Running Time: 10:46)
In this video, you'll learn how to set up a looping animation that doesn't seem like its looping. It will look like a continuous stream flowing through a pipe.
2 - Creating an Animation with Multiple States (Running Time: 15:41)
How do you set up a movie clip animation if you don't always want it moving in the same direction or doing the exact same thing? In this video, you'll learn the concept of setting up different "states" for your movie clip that can be controlled with external buttons.
3 - Using the Tween Class to Make a Bouncing Ball (Running Time: 14:14)
Creating a bouncing ball animation can be a little tedious if you do it visually in Flash. In this video tutorial, Craig will show you how to create a bounce animation with only a few lines of ActionScript by calling on the Tween class and the Bounce class.
4 - Creating a Page Curl Effect with Frame-by-Frame Animation (Running Time: 17:26)
Many new Flash sites have a small page curl animation in the lower right hand corner of the site that provides the option of "turning" to the next page. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to quickly create a frame-by-frame animation of a page curling up at the corner. Many new Flash sites have a small page curl animation in the lower right hand corner of the site that provides the option of "turning" to the next page. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to quickly create a frame-by-frame animation of a page curling up at the corner.
5 - Animating Filters in Flash Pro 8 (Running Time: 4:53)
You can motion tween a lot of things in Flash--position, transparency, color, etc--but did you know you could ALSO tween a filter in Flash Professional 8? In this video, Craig will show you how!
6 - Creating a Butterfly Animation in Flash (Running Time: 13:17)
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a two-layer animation. In the inner animation, you'll create a simple butterfly flapping its wings over and over. In the outer animation, this wing-flapping movie clip will be animated along a path.
7 - Creating a Rotating Globe Animation (Running Time: 7:59)
Unfortunately, Flash doesn't have any functionality for creating true 3D animations by itself, but if you know a few tricks, sometimes you can fake it. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a somewhat 3D-esque rotating globe effect in Flash.
8 - Swapping Button Depths on RollOver (Running Time: 12:30)
If you put two buttons next to each other that both expand in size on rollover, then chances are at one point, one of the buttons will be obscuring the other. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to bring an object to the top of the layer stack in order to prevent this problem.
9 - Cursor Replacement and Blending Modes (Running Time: 7:08)
You're gonna need Flash Professional 8 for this tutorial. In this video, you'll learn how to use Flash 8's blending modes to create a circle that follows the cursor around on the stage, inverting the colors of the image in the layer below the circle.
10 - Creating Symbols VS Converting to a Symbol (Running Time: 6:04)
Surprisingly enough, whether you create a new symbol or convert something TO a symbol, you're making a brand new symbol either way. In this video, you'll a little bit more about the differences between these two processes, and you'll also learn some basic concepts about editing symbols.
11 - Fixing Errant Shape Tweens (Running Time: 5:30)
Sometimes complex shape tweens can get a little rambunctious, even when we add all the shape hints we can think to add. In fact, sometimes the shape hints only serve to make things worse. In this tutorial, you'll learn a quick cheat that might fix some of the less desirable shape tween effects that might pop up.
12 - Creating Plane Exhaust (Running Time: 9:08)
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a simple airplane animation with a small trail of exhaust following the plane around. This would also work for a cartoonish car, bus, or train animation. Get creative with it! Go nuts!
13 - Falling Particles (Running Time: 16:29)
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a mouse cursor trail that looks a lot more difficult than it actually is! This process will involve making one simple movie clip and then attaching that movie clip dynamically to the stage at runtime.
14 - Fire Particle Effect (Running Time: 18:38)
In this video tutorial, you will learn how to take a single Movie Clip of a flame particle and create a beautiful, semi-random fiery effect with it using Actionscript.
15 - The onMotionFinished Event (Running Time: 19:12)
In recent tutorials, we've talked about how to use the Tween class in Flash in order to create animations in Actionscript. But what if you want to create a second animation that occurs only after the first Tween has finished animating? In this video, you'll learn how to use the "onMotionFinished" event handler to deal with this problem.
16 - Popup Movie Clips (Running Time: 11:19)
Ever wondered how to create your own little popup window inside your Flash site that pops up whenever the user clicks on a button? In this video, you'll learn how to do just that using the attachMovie() method of the MovieClip class.
17 - Cartoon Fire Effect (Running Time: 11:49)
In a previous tutorial we looked at creating a fancy particle flame effect using Flash. In this tutorial, we're going to stick with the same general idea, except you're going to learn how to create a hand-drawn fire animation, consisting of three frames that repeat over and over.
18 - Helix Animation (Running Time: 16:52)
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a motion path animation of a ball traveling around a helix, or spiral, structure in Flash.
19 - Dripping Faucet (Running Time: 20:10)
Ah, the sound that everyone loves to hear! In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a simple animation of a dripping faucet in Flash. This involves shape tweening as well as some good, old=fashioned frame=by=frame animation.
20 - Creating Symmetrical Round Objects (Running Time: 13:37)
Have you ever wondered how to create a symmetrical round object, like a gear or a flower, in Flash? In this tutorial, you'll learn how to use the free transform tool and the transform panel to do just that. In particular, this tutorial will show you how to illustrate the cross section of an orange.
